Dancing and Romancing December 1, 2009

Another day of school done, and another day of homework.  However, today was a little different.  The Starrs had some company over.

Katrina McIrish had come home with one of the girls.  She and Rai Sing had finished their homework early.  Someone had turned on the stereo when they had come in the door, and one of Rai’s favorite songs started to play.  He looked over.  “Hey, Katrina,” Rai said casually, “do you wanna dance?”

“Sure!” Katrina exclaimed, smiling.  She went over to join Rai, and they started dancing.

Others in the room seemed totally oblivious to the two of them.

Even as others came through the room…

…they seemed oblivious to the young couple dancing.  And, it seemed Rai and Katrina had blocked them out as well.

Rai and Katrina danced for several minutes.  When a slower song came on, both seemed a bit awkward about slowing it down, and so they turned to conversation instead.  Rai told a joke to Katrina, and she laughed.  They talked for several more minutes, and suddenly, Rai got the urge to ask a question of his guest.

“So…Katrina, are you seeing anyone?”  Rai asked.

Katrina’s reply was brief, but to the point.  “No.”  Her reply, though short, had something in its tone to suggest that Katrina was not closed off to the idea of dating.

At first it looked like Rai was going to change the subject.  “Say, that’s  a pretty flower in your hair.”

Katrina smiled.  “Thank you,” she said.

Rai got more to the point.  “I’m surprised you don’t have a boyfriend.  After all, you’re pretty too; prettier than the flower you’re wearing.”

A flush of color came to Katrina’s cheeks.  Perhaps she was a little shy.  Before Rai had a chance to see about going out with her, Katrina said she had to go, and left rather abruptly.  Rai Sing didn’t quite know what to think.  He was at least glad that he didn’t get shot down in front of his siblings.  That would have been embarrassing.  He thought perhaps he’d have to try and get her alone before asking her out next time.

Katrina McIrish was not the only person that stopped by that day.  Hasan Keaton showed up, looking forward to seeing Wii Shing.  Wii was very pleased to see Hasan as well.

“I’m so glad you stopped by.” said Wii, her voice deepening slightly.  “I’ve missed you ever since school let out, Handsome.”

Hasan was flattered.  “I’ve missed you, too.”  he said.

For a moment or two, the young couple stood there, gazing into each other’s eyes.  They were getting lost in a growing first love trance.  The spell was broken however, by the sound of someone clearing their throat.

Wii looked over to see her father standing there.  “Hi Daddy,” she said, slightly embarrassed.  “Dad, I want you to meet a friend from school.  This is Hasan Keaton.  Hasan, this is my Dad, Ian Starr.

Hasan shook Ian’s hand.  “I’m glad to finally meet you, Mr. Starr.  You have a lovely home…and a lovely daughter.”

Wii went weak in her knees.  “Oh, Hasan,” she gushed, “you say the sweetest things.  Isn’t he wonderful, Daddy?”

Ian kept silent, but a part of him was not pleased with how this meeting was playing out.  He knew all of his children were growing up, but Wii was his daughter, and he felt a bit protective of all his girls.  This was the first time he’d seen any of them show interest in a boy though, and he didn’t know if he was ready for all that might entail.  One thing did make him feel at least somewhat comfortable.  When he looked at Hasan looking at his daughter, he saw in his face that he really did care for her.  He muttered something about needing to go take care of something; said it was nice meeting Hasan, and he left the room.  He decided that for now, he’d take a watchful approach.

Left to themselves now, as Wii’s siblings had also left the room, the young couple engaged in sweet talk and little flirty interactions.  Hasan took Wii’s hands.

“I’d love to stay a while longer, but it’s a school night.  I need to get home soon.  We should get together again soon.”

Wii stroked Hasan’s cheek.  “I’d love that.  I’ll count the moments.”

Hasan took Wii’s hand.  “I’d better go, Wii.  I’ll see you at school and we can make plans then.”

Hasan pulled Wii into a hug.  Being this close to her felt good.  He considered kissing her, but he saw Ian’s bedroom door open just a crack, and the hint of an eye peering out.  Perhaps tonight would not be the best night, thought Hasan.  Hasan and Wii said their goodbyes, and Hasan went home.

When I first saw Rai’s speech bubble, I thought he was asking Katrina to marry him…

OMG! Marriage might be in the younger Starrs futures (at least for some of them), but not yet! They’re still all in High School!

I hope so, that’d be so sweeet. x3
It’d be unsettling if Rai really was proposing, though. xD
