About the Author

Celara

Up until this time, this is how everyone visiting this site or reading my comments on this or another blog has seen me.  Actually, my alter ego, Celara, has been in existance for quite some time…since the early 80’s, as a matter of fact.

I first created Celara for an online role playing game called “The Shadow of Yserbius” on The Sierra Network (which later became ImagiNation).  Celara was my first gaming character, and she became a recurring character in my gaming life.  It was also on ImagiNation where I penned my first online stories.  They were actually group stories, written by several authors.  They were written chapter by chapter, and where one author ended, the next would have to begin, sometimes taking the story in unusual twists and turns.  As Lady Celara, I ran a Magic:  The Gathering game ladder on ImagiNation, and then on TEN (see below) became a lead for a group of MTGs that ran tournaments and events for players there.

Celara became my alter ego on my next online gaming site; Total Entertainment Network (TEN).  Celara became one of my characters in their game, Dark Sun Online.  Though Dark Sun is now gone, TEN eventually merged into what is now Pogo, and occasionally, I still play some games there.

On ImagiNation, in the rest of their gaming areas, I used my own “face” (or a reasonable facsimile).  PamelaJ was my moniker in all other areas but the role playing area, Pamela J being my first name and my middle initial.  I decided to do that rather than use my last name, knowing that no matter what I did, those two things would never change.  It was good that I did so, as in almost 30 years, my last name has changed a few times.  It changed the first time when I met and married someone I met online in ImagiNation (and I can honestly say I had a wedding that was a national media event; CNN was doing a story on the network and we were featured because we got married at their first national gathering).  Our marriage lasted about 5 years.  After the divorce, a friendship I had developed on TEN blossomed into a romance, and I married Bill Sabados, my current husband.  We celebrated our 10th anniversary in May 2009, and we’re still very much in love. 🙂

So, if I were to represent me in Sims 3, I’d look something like this (this is a husband approved representation):

Pamela J. Sabados

Pamela J. Sabados

It’s a pretty good likeness.  The glasses are spot on to my current frames.  The hair style is pretty darn close, though I don’t have near that much gray in my hair (I wouldn’t mind; I like salt and pepper hair).

Taken about five years ago, this is one of my favorite pictures of myself. If you can't guess, royal blue is my favorite color.

Bill and I live in Northern California, about an hour or so north of San Francisco.  I’m not a California native though; I’m originally from Michigan, and other than a year or so that I spent in Ohio with my first husband, up until just over ten years ago, Michigan had been my only home.  I grew up in Flint, Michigan, and if you’ve ever seen any of Michael Moore’s movies, then you’ve probably seen a rather skewed view of my home town.

Basic Stats

Age – Adult (currently 46).

Traits

Couch Potato – This trait is probaby the number one reason that my Sim and I are not in the best shape.  I’m sorry to say that my lack of exercise is starting to catch up with me, and it’s not easy to get motivated to move when moving hurts.

Family-Oriented – While the desire for kids was there, the reality is that I’ve never had any of my own.  Between Bill and I, we have three nephews and one niece that live out of our area (two in Oregon and two in Michigan).  It was my love of children though that led me to work in elementary education for several years.  I taught first grade most of the years I taught, and I loved it.

Heavy Sleeper – Yes, I do snore. 😛  I can also sleep through many things; when I’m out, I’m out.

Natural Cook – My husband says that I can whip up the most amazing things with the stuff we have in the cupboard.

Perfectionist – Sometimes, I don’t think that it’s as much that I really am a perfectionist as that I’m my own worst critic.  I think as I’ve gotten older I’ve gotten over it a bit more, otherwise, I don’t think I would have been able to write a blog.

Favorite Color – Royal Blue

Favorite Food – Mac and Cheese

Favorite Music – Pop – I actually have very eclectic tastes in music.  I would say one genre not listed here that I’m a fan of is that of novelty songs.  I like stuff that plays on Dr. Demento, and “Weird Al” is a favorite.

For some reason, the “Coming Soon” isn’t showing up on my side. I do plan to get some info up about me and what things I do outside of the Sims 3. I’ll get started on it after I update the rest of the family info.

The font looks like its in white. Maybe try changing the font colour and see if it shows up?

That worked. Interesting that on the edit it was showing black even before I changed it…one of those glitches that just makes it interesting.

Though I’ve been writing on here for a while, I’m still getting used to the text editor. Thanks for the help! 🙂

I just love that you taught 1st grade, I’m currently going to school to teach in that area (well my original goal was 3rd but then I observed a 1st grade class and i just loved those guys so while I’m not sure where I’ll end up it will defenatly be with little kids)

I had subbed or taught in just about every grade from pre-K to 8th. You couldn’t pay me enough to go back to middle school. 😛 I work much better with younger kids.

However, I am no longer in Education. I currently work in a Credit Union in our area, and have been there for the past 10 years.

It was really interesting to read about you, since I’ve become a total fan of your blog ^^ Fun that you succeeded to create a sim that looks alike you!
I’ve made a sim that sort of has the same facial features than I, but there simply isn’t one single hairstyle that would be even close to what I have! 😦 I have quite thick, long and straight – what is it called – hair on my forehead (what IS it called?! I absolutely don’t know an english word for those hair), and there’s only one hairstyle with forehead hair – and those are short and thin, plus the rest of the hair is longer than I have, so it doesn’t remaind of my hair at all! Aaargh, I think it’s a terrible lack, ’cause my hairstyle isn’t even uncommon (but well, the hairstyles in the sims are not too good anyway).
Sorry, that was SO off the topic XD
Well, it’s interesting to hear about your alter ego, ’cause I have an alter ego too, and I’ve had it for many years 😉 There’s something similar in Eafi and her, but not so much that I could say that they’re alike.

I think the word you’re looking for is “bangs”. 🙂 If you haven’t already, you might want to check out the Sims3 Store. I’ve bought one or two hairstyles from them, just to give me more to work with.

ohhaiii - August 9, 2009

In england we call it a fringe lol but ye the hairstyles are shocking on S3

4. ohhaiii - August 9, 2009

It was really interesting reading about you. It sounds like you’ve had a really interesting life 🙂

celara - August 9, 2009

Thank you. Sometimes, to me, it doesn’t sound that interesting I guess, but glad you think so.

Of course, you’re only seeing highlights too, not the everyday “go to work and go home” stuff. 😉

I just pulled up a nice resource that I’ve added to my blogroll:

http://www.thesimsresource.com/

They have some nice free hair designs; I think the bob with bangs/fringe might be close to what you’re talking about Kansine. They’ve also got tattoos, clothing designs, etc. There are some other resources I found through some of the other resource sites I discovered recently that have some cool stuff.

I’m looking at that growing blogroll…boy, quite a list!
